What is it about?

The main objective of this research was verify if the use of baits increased the number of sampled species by camera trapping.

Why is it important?

The use of baits associate with camera traps is very common, however there is few researches testing its efficacy. It's importatn to know if the baits are usefull or not. We verify that the baits were not important for richness estimates. We obtained very similar richness at the same amostral effort using or not using the baits. Lastly, the baits represented expenses for our work, because the need to fieldtravels for replace the food. The use of baits increased four times the work expenses.

Perspectives

This is not a veredict about baits use. We consier that the experiment was conducted in a large protected area and the results can be different in other conditions, like habitat fragments with less resources. We also consider the possibilty of different results in different periods of the year. We encourage others researchers to test the efficacy of the attractives wherever they are studying to verify if this is a necessary investment or not.
