What is it about?

It is difficult to measure how much of changes in entrepreneurship rates are due to evolution of the business cycle, aging of the population or really difference between generations(cohorts). In this paper we apply a methodology to properly answer whether younger generations are more or less entrepreneur in Brazil, Chile, Mexico, Peru and Uruguay.

Why is it important?

The three effects (business cycle, age, cohort) have been acknowledged in the literature. Some previous papers have measure at most two but left at least one without addressing. This is likely to produce spurious results since the channel left out of the analysis can contaminate the results of the channels analyzed. Our paper is the first to jointly estimate the three effects on entrepreneurship.

Perspectives

I hope this paper is useful for those researching entrepreneurship to have a long run perspective of phenomenon that are most of the times addressed using very limited time windows and unsophisticated estimation techniques.
