What is it about?
Our article highlights the importance of testing for cryofibrinogen, which, unlike cryoglobulins, is a test rarely requested by physicians. In our paper, we first describe a method for the cryofibrinogen test developed in our laboratory in Modena (Italy). We also describe the results of the cryofibrinogen test on 103 patients. Currently, there are no predictive data for CF positivity detection. However, considering the data of our study, and in comparison with literature, CF testing seems useful for patients with rheumatological, nephrological, and neurological specific conditions, also in cases of surgical procedures exposing patients to low temperatures, hepatopathy and liver transplant. Thus, we suggest CF testing should be included in investigation protocols for clinical conditions where cryofibrinogen could help evaluate patients with vasculitis syndromes.
