Unstable haemoglobin variant Hb Leiden is detected on Sysmex XN-Series analysers

What is it about?

Unstable hemoglobin variants can cause severe clinical symptoms, but often remain undiagnosed even when Hb-variant screening technology is available. We report for the first time that the new series of routinely used hematology equipment (Sysmex-XN series) can provide valuable clues to these conditions. These clues should trigger further investigation for the presence of an unstable variant.
