Dictionaries that help translate specialised texts.

What is it about?

Specialised translation dictionaries for learners are information tools that can help users translate specialised texts. To meet the needs of learners, translation dictionaries should contain syntactic, translation etc. data as well as exercises and illustrative documents so that the focus on language system is extended to language usage because the central unit of translation is not the word but the text.

Why is it important?

This paper highlights the need for other data types than mere grammatical data. Specialized translations dictionaries should also include information about different equivalents depending on translation strategy, incompatible sentence structures and genre conventions.
