What is it about?

Staring spells recognized for the first time while the patient was falling asleep turn out to be absence ( staring ) seizures. Patient was treated with seizure medications and seizures stopped.

Why is it important?

The staring spells can be missed by families.Also it is unusual to get them diagnosed during a sleep study when you are falling asleep as they usually are recognized during the day.
