What is it about?

The computer based model presented in this paper is tuned to simulate the operation of a tractor semi-trailer truck (lorry). It is based on and released as open-source software and was calibrated and validated through a comprehensive experimental campaign.

Why is it important?

The model can be used to study the impact of road unevenness on the safety and health of its occupants and on its fuel consumption and wear. It is also coupled with a highly precise tire model that allows to estimate energy dissipation caused by the road profile.

Perspectives

The truck and tire models were released publicly as examples of the MBDyn software for multibody simulation. I invite anyone interested in using them to download them directly from the website. The model was also used in other papers for the analysis of the dynamic forces on the road and for the comparison of various tire models.
