What is it about?
This is a detailed study of the formation of the snail as a particular drill formation coming in use among lansquenets late in the fifteenth century and remaining characteristic of them up to the Thirty Years War. It represents an early attempt to introduce regulated forms of bodily behaviour at the initiative of warrior bands themselves.
