What is it about?

This article describes the diagnosis and treatment of a rare tumor called angiolipoma, located in the thoracic epidural spine of a patient who presented with neck pain. Although the patient's tumor was identified three years ago, the diagnosis and treatment process took a long time because the patient refused surgical treatment at that time.

Why is it important?

If left untreated, angiolipomas can cause neurological deficits due to progressive compression of the spinal cord leading to symptoms such as persistent weakness in the legs and dysfunction of the sphincter over time.

Perspectives

Chronic back pain may result from serious underlying conditions. If these issues are not diagnosed and treated promptly, they can lead to irreversible neurological disorders that significantly impact the patient’s quality of life.
