What is it about?
The main thrust of this review is the perceived central position of professional focus to the effectiveness of any category of teacher in Nigeria. According to literature, indicators like instructional delivery, students’ assessment, learning environment, teachers’ personal quality, motivation, and subject content knowledge among others were used to measure teachers’ effectiveness. Distraction, professional development, interpersonal relationship and punctuality were seen as essential components of professional focus that determines teachers’ effectiveness. The recommendations suggested were based upon these components of professional focus.

Why is it important?
Teachers need to be effective for students learning. Teachers are a critical factor in the training of students globally. Effectiveness could be in assessment, instructional delivery, personal quality and learning environment. For sound student learning, every teacher must consider these four constructs.
Perspectives
I consider teachers to be strategic in producing academically sound students. Therefore, it would be appropriate to include teacher effectiveness as a topic in the teacher education curriculum.
