What is it about?

Site of pain is not the source of pain. Thus knee pain may be because of wear and tear in the knee or a pinched nerve in the back creating abnormal pain signals akin to door bell ringing without anyone ringing it but because of shorting of cable. This is a test to differentiate leg pain of local origin and spinal origin

Why is it important?

Would avoid errors of diagnosis bases on location of pain being the source of pain

Perspectives

Pain is a very complex phenomenon. Many sites may be contributing to the same pain e.g. Leg pain from wear and tear of the knee pinched nerve in the back and constant forward position on computer or smart phone. As these complexities increase we need better diagnostic simple aids. There is no point in changing the light bulb only to find the supply erratic. Treatment can be then more predictable .
