What is it about?

We are strongly influenced by the habits of others in our field regarding the way we talk about our daily tasks. This means that our conversations with others in our field limits how we think about what we do and therefore the choices we make when we go about our management tasks.

Why is it important?

Old ways of managing cultural organizations may impede success. If we cannot break out of our traditional ways of talking about and thinking about management strategies we cannot come up with new management strategies.

Perspectives

This article introduces practice discourse as a method for putting management practices under a microscope - something that is not very common in cultural management. It suggests that knee jerk ways of doing things without reflection should be questioned with an eye to making needed changes.
