What is it about?

A series of new Schiff bases (azomethines) of acetophenone were prepared with a number of amines. Their structures were determined using spectroscopic techniques (NMR, Mass, IR, etc). Antimicrobial activities were also conducted against a number of microbes.

Why is it important?

Due to efficacy, safety and affordability reasons, new molecules are needed to provide new drug molecules with potential antimicrobial activities.

Perspectives

Microbes are developing resistance against current antibiotics. This necessitates discovery of new antibiotics which are effective, safe and cost effective.
