What is it about?

The effect of seasonal variations on testosterone serum concentration, body weight, scrotal circumference, and some sperm parameters in rams living in a semi-arid region of eastern part of Algeria were determined in OD rams in Algeria. The results showed testosterone concentration is strongly correlated with the scrotal circumference and that the season has a significant influence on spermatic parameters; Thus we can use rams throughout the year..

Why is it important?

Using scrotal measurements in ram is so indicative to determine a performance during during seasons. In Algeria the seasonal variations are not important and we can use ram in reproduction throughout year without inconvenient.

Perspectives

The writing of this article was done in a context relating to the preparation of a thesis. To this end, the collaboration with all the co-authors for a long time has been a great pleasure. The work carried out makes it possible to make available to veterinary and zootechnical researchers an approach on the management of reproduction in sheep farming especially that relating to the reproduction of rams of the Ouled Djellal breed in the Algerian climatic context; where the seasonal influence does not really have an impact on the reproduction of males throughout the year.
