What is it about?
A book review on METAL ON MERSEYSIDE: MUSIC SCENES, COMMUNITY AND LOCALITY, NEDIM HASSAN (2021). The review, titled "Metal in a beaten place", is meant to give the reader an overview of the contents of the book that covers Liverpool as a metal music underground city.

Why is it important?
I can recommend Metal on Merseyside to scholars from a variety of disciplines. The book exists at the crossroads of popular music studies, cultural studies, area studies, human geography and ethnography. But I take pleasure in imagining the city administrators taking a chance with this one. When local scenes are supported both financially and by giving them appreciation, they tend to thrive and feed back more creativity and originality. This is very much about underground and subcultural capital...
Perspectives
Go and get the book I am recommending with this review, if you are a metal scholar, interested in subcultures or have a strange affection on Liverpool as a city (YNWA!)
