What is it about?
Society tends to view both bereavement and learning disability as taboo areas of human experience. This paper examines whether making an animation film about loss can create a better understanding of loss for a group of adults with leaning disabilities, and communicate to an audience the experience of loss for someone with learning disabilities.

Why is it important?
It is important that there is more attention given to the double taboo of bereavement and learning disability as there is a lack of understanding and acceptance of the emotional life of people who have difficulty expressing their emotions in a socially acceptable way. For the many reasons discussed in the paper animation plays a unique role in enabling the expression of feelings and also communicating the difficult emotions around loss to others.
Perspectives
I hope that this article helps everyone who reads it to consider the emotional life of people with learning disabilities and seek to find creative ways to help those who struggle with communication to understand and express their feelings and so improve their wellbeing.
