This publication examines the rise of punk culture in Japan during the 1970s and how it dovetailed with an emerging movement of DIY film production instigated by young, aspiring, yet professionally inexperienced filmmakers. It then charts how this punk generation of filmmakers helped revive Japan's stagnating film industry during the 1980s and 1990s.
