What is it about?

This article explores how players may have feelings or experiences of place when playing video games. More specifically, I show how videogame places are defined by a certain affective intensity, something better understood as a spatially outpoured atmosphere bodily perceived.

Why is it important?

This work is important because it draws a direct connection between 'sense of place' and atmosphere in video games. The link between the two concepts is already strong in disciplines such as geography, phenomenology and architecture, yet remains under-explored within game studies. As such this article contributes both to the already existing rich literature on video game places and to the emerging literature on video game atmospheres.

Perspectives

This article is my first-ever publication, so it is of great significance to me. I was lucky to have great guidance while writing it. I hope that despite my inexperience, readers will get a sense of how fascinating the concepts discussed are!
