What is it about?

Somatics practices are also intercultural. This work traces ways that somatics practices, including technique, and improvisation are related to cultural practices and ideas of diasporas. This paper examines questions of Jewish and African identities in coalition through somatics, making practices, technique and pedagagogy.

Why is it important?

This work fleshes out a coalitional perspective in which political identities and geopolitics are woven into analyses of interculturalism in personal dance making practices in Jewish and African diasporas.

Perspectives

This work engages my own body and identity as a Jewish diasporic woman and overlaps ideas of coalitional practices in dance making and somatics through cultural lenses.
