What is it about?

The article looks at the representation of Native American peoples and cultures in a selection of horror stories written by White Euro-American authors. Apart from recycling several ethnic stereotypes, horror fiction tends to present creatures from Native stories, Native burial grounds, and vengeful shamans as a source of threat for modern Americans. Such representation taps into colonial fear of Indians as the evil Other and fear of their retribution for colonial crimes.
