What is it about?

This article explores the Covid-19 pandemic from the perspectives of transpersonal psychology and a somatic approach to rebirthing. I see our experience of global crisis, of widespread loss and death, of restriction and potential renewal, as a time of collective initiation, each one of us being impelled to undergo a transformatory process of death and rebirth. Stanislav Grof's model of the Basic Peri-natal Matrix offers a map to orient and guide us through such processes of change.

Why is it important?

This perspective offers context for the extreme situation we find ourselves in as we navigate a global pandemic and suffer in many different ways. Seeing our individual suffering within a context of necessary and profound collective change, as a collective initiation, can help us to endure and resource ourselves through this period of uncertainty, grief, and fear.

Perspectives

Writing this article gave me strength and resourced me to better weather the ups and downs of the Covid-19 pandemic. The appreciation of others who read it affirmed me in the belief that we are indeed in a collective process of initiation, which has the potential to lead us through to regeneration and renewed life.
