What is it about?

This is a short article describing OpenZika - an IBM World Community Grid project. It describes why we are trying to identify antivirals using docking in all the crystal structures and homology models from the Zika virus. It provides information on all the proteins we are looking at in addition we arre docking millions of compounds in related flavivirus structures.

Why is it important?

The Zika virus has become an importan public health challenge in the Americas and elsewhere. Currently there is no vaccine and the need to find antivirals that are safe to pregnant women is urgent. The images of microcephally have caused concern globally.

Perspectives

Carolina Horta Andrade and her group in Brazil and Alexander Perryman are doing the docking and selection of compounds for testing. We have been very open about the project and are looking for additional collaborators - this article was written in the hope of finding additional collaborators.
