What is it about?
This study aimed to explore parent/carers’ views and experiences using the Little Orange Book, which is a health resource to support decision making about symptoms of illness in children. This study utilised a mixed-method approach using a survey and then interviews with a sub-set of the respondents. The study explored the barriers and facilitators to using the LOB, the perceived impact on parent behaviour when making health-related decisions for their child, and suggestions for improving the resource.

Why is it important?
This article outlines the key findings of a commissioned evaluation of the LOB and will make a new contribution to knowledge of parental decision-making, distribution of and access to health information, and considerations for future evaluation methods and research.
Perspectives
The publication is important in raising awareness of this important health resource and in providing the perspectives of the parents / carers who use the Little Orange Book to make recommendations to develop it further and also to share it more widely. The mixed methods approach was valuable in gaining the views of a large sample and then examining their views in more depth with individual and group interviews.
