Few studies have evaluated the mechanism of serious injury in acute hospitalization. Our study suggests that falls while ambulating in an acute care hospital were associated with moderate or major injuries.

Perspectives

To prevent injuries caused by falls in an acute care hospital, it is important to evaluate patients’ ambulating ability at several appropriate times depending on changes in body functional status during the patient's hospitalization.
