What is it about?
In 2008, many Japanese doctors often met with pharmaceutical reps and accepted their gifts. After new rules in 2019 and COVID-19's impact, we surveyed doctors in 2021 to see changes. We found most still met reps and valued their role in education. Opinions on gift acceptance were split, but many believed it didn't affect their work. Men, orthopedic doctors, and those with frequent rep interaction or without meeting bans were more likely to view gifts positively.

Why is it important?
Doctors in Japan are still often involved with drug company promotions, but less so than before. Rules against meeting with drug company reps seem to be reducing these activities and making doctors more cautious about accepting gifts.
Perspectives
I'm curious about how we can enhance doctors' intrinsic motivation to build appropriate relationships with pharmaceutical companies.
