We wanted to see how often dental research articles used terms like "data/results not shown" to describe their findings in 2021. These phrases can be unclear, so we looked at how often they were used and what kind of information is hiding behind them.

Why is it important?

In the past ten years, dental research articles have used "data/results not shown" less often. But even in 2021, these phrases were still used, even though there are many free online resources to share extra information easily.

Perspectives

As someone who appreciates clear communication in science, I found it interesting to see how dental research articles have changed in their use of phrases like "data/results not shown" over the years. It's good to see progress, but surprisingly, these phrases are still being used, given the many free and accessible online resources available for sharing extra information. Science is about backing all the claims with evidence/data. Therefore, unsupported claims can be deemed as bad scientific practices.
