What is it about?

Clinical professionals are influential figures in the public’s health-seeking behavior. Therefore, understanding their acceptance of the COVID-19 vaccine is important for designing successful vaccination programs. Our study aimed to investigate level of acceptance of the COVID-19 vaccine, as well as their understanding of the vaccine and their willingness to recommend it for their colleagues, friends and families, and patients.

Why is it important?

Our study showed that steps to improve clinical professionals’ acceptance and recommendation of the COVID-19 vaccine should consider the following factors: - Level of experience and education - Religious beliefs - Vaccine safety concerns - Specific clinical profession - Source of vaccine information By understanding these points of intervention, policymakers would be able to design vaccine programs that are based on research and evidence.

Perspectives

It is important to gather data and evidence on clinical professionals as they are uniquely positioned to influence a large population towards vaccine uptake. We believe vaccination programs should consider such findings into consideration to ensure success, in line with adequate vaccine coverage in the country and the New Public Health Order for the continent at large.
