What is it about?

Many reports have shown that sarcopenia strongly correlated with a poor prognosis. However it is unknown whether sarcopenia increases lung cancer recurrence. This study was to evaluate whether sarcopenia directly increases recurrence and whether it suppresses anti-tumor immunity in patients with lung cancer.

Why is it important?

The 5-year recurrence rate in patients with sarcopenia was significantly higher than those without sarcopenia. Tumor immunity in saccopenia patients have rich in tumor-associated macrophages which promote tumor progression and metastasis.

Perspectives

Our findings indicate the need for future translational research to clarify the biological interaction between sarcopenia and regulation of cancer immunity.
