What is it about?

Our work explores the impact of the Collaborative Chronic Care Model (CCM) on psychiatric hospitalization rates and its effectiveness over time. We found that, on average, CCM reduced psychiatric hospitalization rates by 17% to 49%. The positive effects began immediately upon the start of CCM implementation support and grew in size throughout the one-year study period. The findings suggest that assessments of CCM's effect on psychiatric hospitalization would be well-timed after the change in effect magnitude begins to flatten out, as early as six months post-implementation support start.

Why is it important?

This approach helps in estimating the trajectory of CCM effects on psychiatric hospitalization rates and exploring heterogeneity for CCM across demographic and clinical characteristics. Understanding the time course and heterogeneity of treatment effects can inform the timing of CCM implementation support and help determine which patients should be referred for intervention, potentially increasing the efficiency of the healthcare system.
