What is it about?
We measured how well tulathromycin susceptibility test results predicted tulathromycin treatment success or failure of bovine respiratory disease.

Why is it important?
Antimicrobial susceptibility testing is considered the "gold standard" for choosing the most effective antibiotic. However, the complex disease process of bovine respiratory disease puts a test for a single bacteria at a clear disadvantage.
Perspectives
Antibiotics help kill bacteria as does a healthy immune response. A laboratory based test cannot measure the animal's immune response so it is not a surprise that antimicrobial susceptibility test results poorly predicted clinical outcome of BRD.
