What is it about?
Smartphone usage has become an indispensable part of our daily life. We have shown that using a smartphone while walking induced astigmatism and the binocularity of the eyes. Smartphone use should be avoided while walking to ensure pedestrian safety.

Why is it important?
We measured the corneal aberrations (i.e., optical imperfection) and binocular vision of the eyes after using a smartphone while walking and sitting. Our results indicated the potential optical and vergence aftereffects after prolonged smartphone usage.
Perspectives
The change in the optics and binocularity of the eyes after prolonged smartphone usage while walking might pose considerable dangers. I hope this article can alert smartphone users to be aware of the safety of using their digital devices.
