What is it about?

The research is aimed at limiting the indiscriminate application of toxic chemical-based pesticides to combat plant diseases by simply predicting when and where the disease will occur, and the best timely disease management intervention to adopt in order to avert the disease epidemics.

Why is it important?

Limiting the use of chemicals in agriculture will safe millions of lives from carcinogenic diseases, hepatic, nephritic and cardiovascular infections. These chemical accumulate in living tissues and the environment where they cause long term damages.

Perspectives

The research involves the use of artificial intelligence to forecast disease activities in cocoa farms based on trend analysis, seasonal variation observed over the years, and a cognitive pattern of disease outbreak described by special computer algorithms and computational models. The research is still ongoing, therefore, more upgrade will be made on ETAPOD soon
