What is it about?
We evaluated the OpenArray platform for genetic testing to assess the genotype frequencies of nucleotide-polymorphisms associated with venous thrombosis, hyperhomocysteinemia and hereditary hemochromatosis among blood donors.

Why is it important?
The OpenArray genotyping method was used to simultaneously detect seven different mutations in genes associated with a tendency to thrombosis and iron overload.
Perspectives
The OpenArray methodology showed good concordance of results when compared with other "gold-standard" methods to detect these gene mutations. Further studies may confirm the accurace of OpenArray method.
