Diversity is inherently different between planktonic foraminiferal lineages

What is it about?

We study the diversity in several genetic lineages of Globigerinella (a planktonic foraminifer genus) and find that the different lineages have varying diversities; with some being hyperdiverse. Ecological reasons can be ruled out as an explanation, leading to the conclusion that some lineages show inherently higher diversities than others.

Why is it important?

If diversitfication rates are inherently different between foraminiferal lineages then some lineages will have a higher adaptive potential than others.
