What is it about?

We showed mathematically how one can describe the interactions between networks in the brain with rhythmic activity and how their different mutual timing can change how the information flows between them. Interestingly, we show that the direction in which signals travel from one brain area to another can change dynamically and completely switch by incoming stimuli.

Why is it important?

Our findings give a new perspective on how dynamic the information flow can be modulated between the different networks in the brain. We also set up a general mathematical scaffold for studying coupling between large-scale oscillatory networks.
