What is it about?
We seek here to showcase and explain a recent trend to return to histories of connection and entanglement in eastern Asia, after the nationalist reaction of the mid-twentieth century, and an area studies approach that followed, tending to prioritise similarities and connections within Northeast and Southeast Asia rather than between them.
