What is it about?

Women were integral to the planning and success of the 1898 Trans-Mississippi Exposition (TME) in Omaha, NE. This article is a summary of their involvement in the planning, running, and showcasing of the exposition. Women were also exploited on the midway as spectacles and used as prostitutes. Photographs from the TME are integral to the study of these women.

This article adds to the body of work on world's fairs at the turn of the century by focusing specifically on women's involvement and exploitation at the TME.

Perspectives

This article returns agency back to the women who were underappreciated and exploited at the TME. Their voices need to be heard just as any famous person from that time.
