Managerialism and the social work business

What is it about?

This chapter from my book 'Social Work: the rise and fall of a profession?' examines the growth of managerialism and the social work business in the UK. Coinciding with the rise of neoliberalism private-sector style management has changed the way social workers practice, the emphasis now being on completing bureaucracy speedily to meet targets rather than spending time with service users dealing with their issues. The chapter, and indeed book, critically address these changes.
