What is it about?
This article proposes a new socio-legal concept: Medelacide. In Latin, medela means health/healing, while 'cide referrs to the intentional killing-of. Therefore, MEDELACIDE referrs to the intentional and systematic destruction of healthcare infrastructure (e.g., the bombing of hospitals, kidnapping of doctors, killings of medics, targeting of ambulances). I offer a case study of the Israeli military's annihilation of Gaza's healthcare infrastructure, from October 2023 through October 2024, to document this case. I also draw comparisons between the prior establishment of important socio-legal concepts of ecocide, scholasticide, and genocide. - This article is published open-access and is FREE TO READ & DOWNLOAD on the publisher's website.

This open-access article documents the tragic annihilation of life-saving and life-giving infrastructrures for Palestinians. It also offers a new socio-legal concept that can inform legal writings and actions, and socio-political mobilizations against said injustices.
