What is it about?

This is a short celebration of Janet's life and work. She was one of the original playworkers but her work was so much more than that.

Why is it important?

The playwork sector needs to know its past so as to work towards its future. As a groundbreaking veteran, Janet paved the way for others to follow, in an inspiring and no-nonsense way. Her contribution is also important as many of the recorded figures of the playwork history are men.

Perspectives

I was privileged to know Janet for a short time towards the end of her life, and pleased that she received the Lifetime in Play in London award that I originated whilst CEO of London Play. She was chuffed to receive the award from Lord Smith in the Marquee at the Houses of Parliament, a venue that she described, in her typically irreverent style, as 'the tent'.
