This article discusses the asylum seekers’ school visit ban in Finland. We propose that negative political emotions (mostly fear and anger) played a role in the ban. We go on to suggest that negative political emotions might have problematic consequences for democratic decision-making processes. We argue for following established democratic procedures and for the reinforcement of positive political emotions as a long-term educational objective.
