This paper outlines research findings from a study of policy implementation at the UK Government Department for International Development (UKAID). The data was gathered in the UK and Nepal and outlines a range of barriers and facilitators of cross sector policy as well as suggestions for ways to enhance collaboration across sectors.

Why is it important?

Partnership, cross-sectoral and interdisciplinary ways of working are advocated widely in policy making. The reality of putting this into practice is not always straightforward. This is an empirical study that involved 30 interviews and over 100 informal meetings with staff at all levels of DFID in the UK and Nepal.
