Why is it important?
Since the fluctuate nature of motivation is focused in the study of motivation, how it changes and the reason behind the changes are important to explore in order to develop more comprehensive account for the role of motivation in terms of successful second language learning. How three participants' perceptions of their own experiences in a study abroad program affected their attitude towards learning English and motivation to continue their study were investigated by carefully examining data collected by the interviews and learning logs. This is a unique study of the changes of motivation following the relational approach advocated by Dornyei & Ushioda (2011).
