What is it about?

This publication quantifies and illustrates how increasing the frequency by which pharmacies produce their scheduled doses can increase the monetary savings these pharmacies and their respective institutions can achieve. The 2-phase study focuses primarily on those doses prepared using sterile compounding techniques and measures.

Why is it important?

This is the first attempt to actually quantify pharmaceutical waste as a function of changing batching frequency of prepared sterile pharmaceutical doses. The study is also unique in the fact that it stratifies costs and provides guidance for institutions on practical aspects of achieving pharmacy operational savings.

Perspectives

This is a great, well-thought and planned study regarding sterile compounding batch frequency and impact on pharmaceutical waste. I am pleased to have been able to contribute to this work and use it as a method of improving our own pharmaceutical operations.
