What is it about?

Working time arrangements have remained surprisingly conventional. According to the Finnish Time Use Surveys (1979-2010), the vast majority of employees still work at their employer’s facilities during normal business hours, lending no support to the 24/7 working society thesis.

Why is it important?

The time use survey based on diaries not only provides more accurate information than typical survey questionnaires, but it is also a highly useful tool when evaluating societal changes over time.

Perspectives

Writing this article was one of the most interesting projects I have ever done. The changes we observed were much more moderate than we anticipated. Our findings are in marked contrast with the hyperbole and expectations which assume that we are witnessing the emergence of a 24/7 society.
