What is it about?

Most of the world seems dangerously unaware of the crisis of opioid overprescription, diversion, misuse, and overdose related death in the US and Canada.

Why is it important?

Advocates and pharmaceutical companies created the current problems in the US and Canada and seem to be having a similar influence in the UK and Europe. Informed doctors will resist the unhelpful claims that we are underutilizing opioids and overly worried about their potential for misuse.

Perspectives

My co-authors and I hope that our description of the mistakes made in the US and Canada with opioids will prevent our colleagues in the rest of the world from making the same mistakes.
