What is it about?

The risk of failure of total knee replacement (TKR) requiring revision is higher in patients under 55 years, but little is reported regarding non-revision outcomes. We report that patients coming to TKR at <55 years often have complex knee histories and indications and should be counselled about elevated risks of dissatisfaction.Poor preoperative functional outcome scores, improvement therein, and stiffness independently predicted dissatisfaction on multivariate analysis. Offering TKR when X-ray changes of arthritis are minimal is questionable as dissatisfaction rates reach 59%.
