What is it about?

Limb salvage and reconstruction using massive implants is gold standard in the treatment of bone tumours. Unfortunately these implants fail after a period of time causing pain, reduced function and in some cases implant breakage. The most common cause of failure is loosening. In this study we have designed a novel component of the implant that is 3D printed and we have shown it to allow for better integration with the patients skeleton. This in turn is thought to reduce loosening and eventually implant failure preventing relatively young patients from undergoing high risk and complex revision or re-do surgeries.
