What is it about?

This was a self-check (audit) using an agreed criteria to identify any existing gaps in early postnatal care service provision; gaps were there. possible ways to improve were identified and implemented; results of the second self-check (re-audit) revealed improvement in the provision of early postnatal care services at the hospital.

Why is it important?

Using existing mechanisms of self-check like a criterion-based clinical audit is non-reprimanding/non-judgement, yet improves the quality of health care services to the benefit of the service providers, the clients, the institution and nation at large.

Perspectives

This publication should act as a trigger to fellow midwives, nurses and other health care providers to seek available knowledge and skills on a criterion-based clinical audit for personal and professional enhancement in providing quality health care services that meet the required standards.
