What is it about?
Stepping away from a critical care role was a huge, daunting step in my career. I spent many hours deliberating the decision and wondering whether my choice to do so would have a detrimental effect on my career. This narrative explores some of the perceptions and assumptions of myself and others with regards to changing my career.

Why is it important?
International Women's Day 2025 is about accelerating action in addressing the systemic barriers and biases that women face, both in personal and professional spheres. My ongoing work to promote women in critical care roles and advancing clinical practice is directly impacted by the biases women face, often in wider society which affects their career progression. I want to share how leaving critical care is not the end of a woman's career and only adds to their knowledge, skills and aspirations.
